I is for Impact.

Impact has become a buzzword of late. Everyone is trying to make it and everything we do has it. Of course, this has always held true — all living things are connected and therefore inter-dependent — but our decision to not quantify the social and environmental impacts of doing business (negative externalities) has artificially disconnected our activities (and responsibilities) as businesses from our existence (and responsibilities) as humans and citizens.

Laurie Lane-Zucker’s poetic and lucid article “The Impact Economy”, published in Impact Entrepreneur Magazine, explores the ramifications of capitalism as we have known it and the potential for a world shaped and buoyed by a new economy that embraces the triple bottom line.

The type of economy he describes is triggering transformational change — in business as in life. It rests on seeing all of our actions as tied to a greater ecosystem of living things. Do you agree? Give it a though and feel free to share your conclusions with us on LinkedIn.
