According to Teresa Amabile, creativity can be defined as “the production of novel, appropriate ideas in any realm of human activity, from science, to the arts, to education, to business, to everyday life.”

Three key ingredients make creativity possible:
+ mastery of a discipline — knowing your craft allows for the development of alternate cognitive pathways;
+ thinking skills — tolerating ambiguity, risk, and challenge;
+ intrinsic motivation — connecting with the deep human desire to make and to achieve.

To be entrepreneurial, in any space, we need creativity — and vulnerability. We need to be willing to move forward with no guardrails, no clear markers. To trade-in certainty for experimentation; right and wrong for “let’s try it and see.”

“It’s not about winning or losing,” says Brené Brown, “it’s about showing up and being seen.”

When we allow space for creativity, we find new avenues. With the risks, come the rewards.
